Round One Part Four is live!

This BatRep took a little longer to edit together than normal due to a couple issues.  I want to preface my comments with saying a big thank you to both Nick and Paul for providing the footage, without their assistance, there we would't have this series.

First the game footage was filmed in 640x480, which wouldn't be an issues if not for the fact all my openings graphics and templates I use are formatted for 1280x720.  So this BatRep was much like starting over from scratch.  Secondly, this was the first time either Nick or Paul filmed a game, (and as I can attest to doing the same thing myself), they missed some of the shots explaining who is shooting/assaulting who, which left me trying to puzzle out what is happening to who.

For those getting that odd sense of deja vu, its because this will be the third BatRep featuring the Leshotep's Necrons and my Orks.  Les was hoping for a different opponent for Round One, but the fates weren't in the Necron's favour for a different opponent.

Just wanted to provide a quick BatRep Tournament update.

• All four Round One games have been played and filmed.  The second Round One game (Leshotep's Necrons V my Orks) is currently about 50% through the editing process, and I'm aiming to get it posted by the beginning of next week.
• The first game of Round Two was played this past weekend, and the other game is due to be played in the next week or two.
• Look for a Round One 'Highlight Reel' videos after all four Round One games are posted.  I'm going to throw in some statistics and get the players to give their opinion on the turning point of the game.

With our 'friendly tourney' starting up in a couple weeks, people were wanting to test out their submitted lists and try their hand at filming.  So we have not one, but TWO BatReps in the pipe right now, waiting on final editing.

Look for a couple 1,000pt BatReps featuring Space Marines vs Orks and Necron vs Tyranid by the week's end.

Deff Head Dice - Spring 2012 Friendly Tournament - 1

Starting the weekend of April 28/29, my gaming 'group' is having a friendly tournament, and you get to watch!

We have eight players taking part in this 1,000 point (plus 250 point side bar), three round elimination tournament.  The players will be submitting their lists on Friday April 13th, and I will post them all here for everyone to see.

I'm thinking of supporting this tourney with a little contest, in which the reader that picks the winner of the tourney based on the army lists gets a prize from my bitz box.

Deff Head Dice BatReps needs you!

I'm looking for opponents for my video BatRep series, Deff Head Dice, in which we film our games and post them to my YouTube channel.


If you can make it to Phoenix Games in downtown Kitchener, Ontario with a fully painted army, (tabletop standard is fine) and be able to field between 1,000 to 2,000 points, please comment below with what army you want to play, point size and dates you are available.


I typically play my Ork army at Phoenix Games, as they always have a table open and have great terrain. Currently I'm only looking to play Saturday or Sunday afternoons.

Best laid plans...

The planned rematch between Les and myself started off with a bang (the sound of my Battlewagon and his Ghost Arks blowing up), but due to unforeseen family issues the game had to be cut short in the bottom of turn two.  Rather than waste the footage, I opted to post it anyways.

Orks VS Necrons BatRep is Live

The first BatRep under my Deff Head Dice banner is up.  Les and I filmed this one last week at Phoenix Hobbies, on one of the tables in side area.  Les was testing out his 1,000 point list for our friendly tournament in April, and I fielded what has been my standard list for the last few games.

After completing my first very basic 'test batrep' back in early February, I've been looking at ways on how to improve my overall 'product', including trying to separate from the other batreps currently out there.  I've come up with something I'm quite happy with...

Introducing Deff Head Dice BatReps

The observant among you will have noticed that most of the D6 dice I play with have a death head symbol in place of the 1.  I purchased these dice a LONG time ago (1990/1991, I believe) to play Shadowrun with, where if you rolled a 1, it NEVER a good thing.  Fast forward 20 years and I cracked them out again when I got back into playing 40k.  The dice seen in the videos help reinforce the 'brand' I'm trying to present. Plus I think the logo looks cool.

The first DHD BatRep should be up by the evening  March 12th, featuring my current Ork list versus Lesohtep's Necron list.

After a week or so of fighting with my computers and webcam, I think I've finally got everything figured out.  So let the unboxing videos begin!  Look for a couple featuring the Pegasus Hobbies Terrain line in the next few days.

What do you mean we can't use the footage?!?

In an attempt to improve on the last BatRep, we opted to try a different camera.

Well...  that didn't work out as expected.  Not only did it burn through two sets of 3 AAA batteries in just over an hour, most of the footage was dark and murky.  So much so that I was having issues figuring out what was what...  and it was my army!  We switched back to my BlackBerry 9860 from the middle of the third turn on and it looked MUCH better, but no one wants to watch a BatRep starting at the third turn.

So it looks like the next BatRep won't be for a few more weeks, but that will give me a chance to paint up some more shoota boyz and work on a fancier "WargamerDragonar" opening.
